Need a study break and want to catch up with the most popular articles, videos, and blogs we had this year? Here’s our mascot, Charlie, with his top 20 picks from this year! (In no particular order.)   Back in February, copy editor Andrew Kletzien wrote an opinion piece entitled “A Letter to Catholic Apologists.” The piece was a commentary regarding several sexual assault incidents involving children in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. Andrew’s article invoked much discussion from Catholic students on campus.                   In March, staff writer Erika Vigen offered her opinion more »

On Thursday, April 26, 2012, His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, visits Loyola University Chicago's Lake Shore Campus for a lecture on interfaith collaboration.

By Kim De Guzman Editor-in-Chief   On Thursday, April 26, the Loyola University Chicago campus was abuzz with the excitement of welcoming a world-famous spiritual leader to campus.   His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso visited campus to present a lecture about “Interfaith Collaboration” in Loyola’s Joseph J. Gentile Arena.   There were two programs: a morning session and an afternoon session. The morning program, although also held on the Lake Shore Campus, was sponsored and organized by the Tibet Center of Chicago.   The afternoon program was sponsored and organized by Loyola.   Anticipation for His Holiness’ more »

A STAFF LETTER: Look back, look forward, and thank you

Phot by Kim De Guzman/the Chameleon. We can have our cake...and eat it too! Happy summer, Loyola! Good luck on finals! :]

Dear Loyola University Chicago (and the world),   It’s incredibly hard to believe we’re near the end of the 2011-2012 school year.   As we look back on all the memories, the Chameleon staff and I particularly reminisce at the year we’ve had here working at this publication.   The Chameleon was founded because we believed there was no student media publication on campus that catered to an alternative audience.   We also believed there was no official campus magazine that allowed students of all majors to come together and produce a work that interested them.   This magazine has more »

FRIDAY FASHION SPECTRUM: ModCloth- Voice by Vintage

By Hannah Lutz Blog and Social Media Editor   Looking for some cute and classy outfits to celebrate summer? Take a break from studying for your upcoming finals to explore the wonders of ModCloth.   The online collection started as a vintage-only company, but it has since expanded to include independent designers as well. One of the reasons ModCloth founder Susan Koger decided to extend the merchandise to include indie designed apparel was not only to support other designers and small businesses, but also to cater to the ModCloth customer. It’s heartbreaking when a knock out vintage dress isn’t in more »

FRIDAY FASHION SPECTRUM: Reporting from Tokyo

First glimpse of Harajuku. I love his hat and he pulls off the shoulder bag (proof that shoulder bags can look masculine!), Photo by Adilla Menayang/ The Chameleon

By Adilla Menayang Chameleon Fashion Blogger   When people hear “Japanese Style,” the first thing that often comes to mind is the vibrant, quirky and outlandish street style that dominate the streets of Harajuku (or the Los Angeles Convention Center during AnimeCon).   Over Easter Break I was actually lucky enough to visit Tokyo, the city of my dreams, even though it was only a four-hour layover. My friend Erin was kind enough to skip her first day of school to take me around and show me parts of the city she thought would interest me.   Of course, she more »

NOT-SO-WHISPER WEDNESDAY: Lips

Happy Hump Day! I hope you’re all enjoying your final week of classes before the summer break.   This week I want to talk about lips. Not those lips, you perverts, the ones on your face. I want to talk about lips because they are what make my favorite encounter possible, kissing.  I have kissed roughly 20 odd individuals in my lifetime so far, so I can honestly say that different lips make a different kiss.  Yes, yes it is true that if you’re a bad kisser it doesn’t matter if you have lips made by Zeus, you still suck, more »

TATTOO TUESDAY: As Permanent as a Tattoo

Photo by Audrey Kelly/ The Chameleon

By Audrey Kelly Chameleon Fashion Blogger   Hey guys!   So, for my last post I thought I would indulge myself and tell you all about my ink (and inspiration for this blog).   I have four tattoos, two of which hold significant meaning for me: the one of Stonehenge and the only words I’ll ever permanently put on my body.   My first ever tattoo was of Stonehenge, the original sketch was drawn by my little sister, based off of a photo I took of the Henge when I visited it. After spending about a year considering this as more »

SUNDAY TRAVELER: The Joy of Sacrament

By Megan Niedringhaus Chameleon Religion Blogger   My cousin made his First Communion this weekend. As I packed into the car with three kids and my aunt and uncle and drove to St. Louis, I spent most of the five hour drive lamenting the fact that I was missing my sorority’s formal, and was instead heading home to stay in an empty house and take pictures all day.   But when I walked into church today, something inside me changed. Granted, a large part of this sudden change in emotion was due to the fact that I was back in more »

CREATIVE WRITING CATHARSIS: Elvis Costello Song

By Barbara Crowley Chameleon Creative Writing Blogger   I always believed there would be a day that you would wake up and realize that letting me disappear was your second biggest mistake. Second of course to erasing me. I never realized it was me who would wake up one morning soaked in the puddles of the sweat and regret I had shed the night before. I had lost you somewhere within a dream, folded into the seams of my storybook nightmares. You were the one who never really cared and I was the one that got away… slipped out of more »
